Vouch Referencing Guide

The below guide walks through Vouch Referencing step-by-step and includes recommendations to ensure the process is quick and easy.

Start my Application

You will receive an email from Vouch (do_not_reply@mail.vouch.co.uk) with the subject line ‘Start Application’. Within this email you will find your reference number (1st line) and your pin (3rd line) to gain access to your Vouch Referencing application. Click the blue ‘Get Started’ button at the bottom of the email and enter your pin.

On the first page, below the information regarding the tenancy (address, move-in date, rent, and deposit), select whether you would like to proceed with Reposit or the Deposit Protection Service. Click the right arrow at the bottom to select whether or not you would like to be contacted by Sky when your referencing has been accepted.

Continue your application through the right arrows at the bottom. You will be asked to confirm your contact details, date of birth, where you are currently living, what you do for a living, how you are going to pay, and how many others are moving in with you.

  • We recommend that you select ‘living with parents/guardian’ or ‘with friends’, even if you are renting, in order to speed up the process.
  • If you are a student and are working, we recommend selecting ‘I have a job’ in order to speed up the process.

You will then be asked to confirm your country of origin and if you have been in the UK for less than 6 months. Effortless Estate Agent is required by law to make sure everyone moving in has the right to rent in the UK. For more information about this process see the government guidance.

The next section asks for information regarding whether you smoke or have any pets, and details for your emergency contact. Following this, you will be asked to sign the tenancy declaration agreement using your mouse on a laptop/computer or your finger on a phone/tablet. You will then confirm that you understand that Vouch will contact you by phone or email to help you notify your local authorities for council tax and water about your new address, and to recommend other offers and services. If you don't wish for Vouch to contact you, you'll need to let them know. You can find how to contact them and how they process your data in their privacy policy.

You will then need to upload the following documents:

  • Proof of recent salary payments (e.g., your last 3 months payslips, bank statements, or contract of employment).
  • At least your last 3 years of address details.
  • Valid proof of your current address (e.g., a recent utility statement or bank statement).
  • A valid proof of ID (e.g., a passport or driving licence).

Finally, you will need to provide information regarding:

  • Adverse credit: always select ‘yes’ even if you do not (the year can be set as ‘0000’), as if anything unknown to you is found when Vouch searches, and you have selected ‘no’, you will automatically be failed.
  • Previous address history.
  • Landlord reference: make sure your landlord knows to expect an email from vouch to ensure they complete the reference as soon as possible.
  • Affordability details.
  • Verify income with bank: we recommend that you verify your income with your bank, as this results in faster confirmation of income than verifying manually.
  • Employment details.
  • Employment reference: ensure that the email address you provide is a professional email address (i.e., @companyname.com, not @gmail.com) and that your employer knows to expect an email from vouch to ensure they complete the reference as soon as possible.
  • Guarantor reference.
  • Supporting documents: proof of ID, proof of address, proof of funds.

Details of the declaration that tenants will be asked to sign can be viewed by selecting Vouch Declaration below.
